Real Wedding | Jaira & Jacob

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Hi there! Jacob and I are a young couple having the best time starting our lives together. We live in Sydney's Northern Beaches, so we are always by the ocean and it's perfect. We couldn't wait to get married, so we had a quick 3 month engagement and it was the most fun and hectic 3 months. We love to be with family and friends, eat good food, drink good wine.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Talbingo Lodge is a newly family owned pub. My (Jaira) father bought this pub with my uncle and his best friend back in 2020. The pub was in shambles and had many previous owners but those old boys are dreamers, so they dove in. But they needed the women to get involved to get things up and running. Anyways, I thought thats it pretty rare for your Dad to own a pub and to have free reign to do whatever I wanted for my wedding, so we had our wedding there.

A lot of work went into getting the pub looking better but we have the best friends and family so we all went up many weekends to take thrifted lamps, tables, candelabras and artworks. We went to paint and lay lawn and do many more things. It may not have been perfect, but we did it all ourselves and that made it so special.

How many guests did you have?

We had around 130 guests.

What was your budget?

Our budget was $30'000.

Tell us about your outfits.

We went very simple and affordable outfits. Jacob wasn't very fussed on what he wore and I wanted our looks to be timeless. For Jacob and the Groomsmen, I loved the cool and relaxed look. They wore Reiss shirts with no ties. It felt timeless but still young and fun.

I hadn't found a dress that I loved, so I was happy to go simple. I bought my dress secondhand on Depop and got a family friend to alter it. Later, I realised I wanted too add something a bit more interesting and a week before my wedding, my mum and I went out to find a veil. We couldn't find anything, so we bought some lace fabric and got a friend to cut it and then we tea dyed it. Im so glad

I ended up making the veil. I loved it for the ceremony amongst the weeping willows!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

There were a few things we wanted to have when planning our wedding and they were pretty simple: we wanted it to be as stress free as possible, we wanted to make sure we could have fun and do what we wanted with it. It was our special day and we wanted to be involved in all the details of it and to have a touch from all our family and friends.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

The main element we wanted for our big day was for everyone to have fun! We wanted our day to feel relaxed and like a big party and I think we pulled it off.

We have the best people in our lives and we wanted them to have a ball.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Enjoy and appreciate this time! You only get to experience it together once and it happens so fast. It can be so much fun so put the effort in to enjoy it and soak it in together.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Alll our vendors! They were all amazing.

But a few mentions: firstly, Brooke McBurnie Takes Photos. She is the best 'moment capturer' out there. She is a good friend, so that was special to have her shoot it, but she is also such a great photographer! Her pictures are so warm and touching, while still caprturung the vibe you want to go for. She is perfect.

Our florists, The Potting Shed Jugiong, were amazing too! I wasn't too sure what I wanted or how to explain it to them, so I was not the easiest, but they did the most amazing job!

And lastly our caterers, Marra Café. I wanted to have a lot of food! I hate leaving a wedding hungry and they delivered. They had heaps of delicious food and they left a late night snack and any leftovers for the guests!
