Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met on the Gold Coast in 2015 when Jack was playing for the Gold Coast Suns AFL team. Brittany is from the Gold Coast and Jack was drafted to the team from Broome in Western Australia. We are now living in Melbourne as Jack plays for the Carlton Football Club.
We got engaged in July, 2021 and in that off season holidays we were visiting both of our families in Queensland and Western Australia. We got their blessing to elope in Melbourne upon our return.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We were married at the Fitzroy Gardens, across the road from the Pullman on the Park, where we were checked in to stay for the weekend. We had a private ceremony, amongst the greenery, before we headed into the city for photos. We then went to Society Restaurant for our reception dinner, for just the two of us.
How many guests did you have?
We had no guests, as it was an elopement.
Tell us about your outfits.
I wore a white jumpsuit by Alex Perry. It had long sleeves, a high choker neck and long, flowing legs. I paired it with white sling back heels by Billini with a diamond embellishment, diamond stud earrings and my Anton Jewellery engagement ring. Jack wore a traditional black tux by Politix Menswear, with matching bow tie and black shoes.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
That the day was solely about the two of us making a commitment to each other – carefree, stress and anxiety free! We also wanted a GREAT photographer for everlasting memories (thanks to Bianca Virtue!), as well as high quality wedding bands from Anton Jewellery to exchange, as we will cherish them forever.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We wanted to keep elements traditional however, modified them to suit an elopement. Therefore, we still exchanged vows, Jack wasn’t allowed to see me before I was completely dressed and ready, we both wore black and white and we still had a traditional, old fashioned Bentley wedding car from Always Classic Cars, - including ribbons on the front!
Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?
Absolutely plan and make the day around the two of you! We didn’t listen to anyone else, nor let others opinions affect our decision to elope. It was the best thing we ever did! We would do it again and would have eloped even if it weren't for the pandemic. It suited us to a T, as we are a low key and private couple.
We would also advice other couples to keep things as secret as you can before the big day. Only close family and best friends knew that we were eloping. We announced it on social media a few days later and it took a lot of pressure off, as nobody knew. That also meant that nobody was able to give us their opinions on our wedding!
However, we ended up having the best reaction about our decision to elope! A lot of people have said that it has given them the idea of doing the same, as it looked so peaceful, romantic and modern.
