Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Dylan works in hospitality and we both love to throw parties and create atmospheres where our loved ones can let loose and have fun. The pandemic was hard- especially for those that love socializing and live music. We decided that the best way to celebrate our love for our friends, family, and each other, would be to give everyone a soiree filled with all our favorite things- which included a surprise concert! August Hall has 'Old San Francisco' charm, could accommodate 300 guests and a band set up, and had a wonderful after-party room.
How many guests did you have?
We had 15 guests at our private ceremony, 75 at dinner and 300 at the party. Sophie Lin Berard captured our day.
Tell us about your outfits.
I wore a simple white dress to our private ceremony, with my grandmother's diamonds and my sister's tennis necklace. Dylan wore a simple black tuxedo.
The night of the party, I wore a floor length gold Berta gown. Dylan had a custom burgundy tuxedo made, and accessorized with an oversized Tom Ford bow tie. He originally had picked out tuxedo slippers, but our dear friend Cassidy gifted him with customized “Gucci Cat” loafers the day of the wedding. We have the same Gucci wallpaper in our dining room, and Dylan loved the shoes so much that he decided at the last minute to wear them instead!
Once Chromeo started playing, both Dylan and I changed into sequined after-party outfits (my dress was from Retrofete.) They looked great, but every time we hugged, we got stuck to each other!
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Making sure our guests had a great time. Our friends and family are an integral part of our lives, and we felt like we were celebrating them just as much as we were celebrating ourselves.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Ashley Smith Events and her team planned my 30th birthday party, and she brought in a giant heart disco ball, which I immediately fell in love with. For our wedding, she ended up being able to bring in that same disco ball, as well as an even larger heart disco ball. The guests loved dancing around it all night!
Any tips for couples getting married?
You don’t have to follow the playbook! Do what makes you happy.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Ashley Smith Events and her team went above and beyond with planning this event. I’d come to her with a half-baked idea, and a week later, she’d have a fully fleshed out concept. She has the ability to create absolute magic.
