Real Wedding | Ashley + Moira

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Ashley and I met in a yoga class. I was teaching and she was practicing. Before class started we realized we had the same tattoo: be kind, written on our hearts. We spent some time apart due to Ashley working abroad, but became inseparable when she got back. We live in a historic townhouse in Lafayette Square in St. Louis with our two boston terriers, Lila and Georgia. We love to entertain and you can find us hosting a dinner party with our dearest friends almost every Friday. Moira is a therapist and Ashley is a stay at home dog mom!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We have always loved Wild Carrot. The venue itself is a piece of art and history and we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. We get to drive past the place where we said I do regularly.

How many guests did you have?

We had 180 guests as well as our photographer Steph Nachtrab Photography present on the day.

Tell us about your outfits.

We both knew we wanted to wear dresses, but also wanted to be sure they were complimentary of each other. Ashley’s style tends to be more feminine and romantic, so a long train and embroidered florals was a perfect match. Moira’s style is more tailored and minimal so the classic lines with the satin finish was so her. For shoes, we both wanted to have a blue suede moment, Ashley in an Alexander McQueen sneaker and Moira in a Sergio Rossi sandal were perfect for the grass ceremony and dancing all night long.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We wanted our wedding to feel like a dinner party at our house, only with a larger guest list and bigger budget. We wanted our guests to feel like they could be themselves and enjoy celebrating love. We had mixed style seating and food stations so our guests could eat when they wanted and feel free to mingle.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We wanted our wedding to feel connected to nature. When talking to our florist, Sarah from Locust Florals, we wanted to create a space that captured the feeling of picking flowers and scattering them throughout the space, to make it feel as real and authentic as we could.

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during Covid?

Be flexible. Remember what really matters, forget the rest.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Locust Florals was amazing, from foraging the most beautiful flowers to sourcing the perfect shade of ivory ribbon no detail was left unconsidered.

Anisa from Seven Cranes Calligraphy created the most special and beautiful invitations and signage. Designing our invitations with her illuminated the style and feeling we wanted from our day. Having the customized sandalwood hand fans at the ceremony and the cocktail napkins with drawings of our pups were details that made the day feel so us.

Our planner, Charley from Coda’s Events, was there with us from day one to calm every nerve and to help us take every opportunity to truly make our wedding the most special and unique to us day. We certainly couldn’t have done it without her!
