North Carolina-based Sonya Le has a deep passion for film photography and the depth and variety it adds to a wedding album. She often observes not only the main events but also the surrounding people, the setting, and the subtle details that define the day. Sonya Le is attracted to images that appear layered and lived-in, capturing both the energy and the quieter moments of the day.

Tell us about your business!

I’m a digital and analog photographer drawn to weddings for what they represent, a rare, meaningful gathering of people and energy. I focus on documenting the full experience, from portraits to the atmosphere of a place, in a way that feels thoughtful and lasting. I’m especially interested in creating images that live on beyond the day itself, the kind that are returned to, shared, and held onto over time.

What would you like couples to know about you?

I’m intuitive in how I approach a wedding, but also intentional. I’ll guide when it’s needed, especially for portraits, but I’m just as focused on noticing what’s already happening and letting those moments unfold. I pay attention to the people, the details, and the setting as a whole, not just the couple, but everyone who makes up the day. I’m comfortable shaping things when it strengthens a moment, but I never want it to feel forced or overly produced.

Where are you based?

I’m based on the East Coast in the U.S., specifically North Carolina.

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes! I regularly travel and am always open to destinations within the U.S. and internationally.

What inspires you?

A lot of my inspiration comes from films, music, and the way a certain feeling can linger in a moment. I’ve always been drawn to romance in a broader sense, not just between people, but in places, objects, and memory. Growing up, I loved going through printed photo albums, and that sense of nostalgia still shapes how I think about images now.

How would you describe your working style?

I typically work with one or two assistants, and we move through the day together rather than splitting things up in a predictable way. I stay present throughout, while they support and extend coverage so nothing feels missed or disconnected.

Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?

I shoot both digital and film throughout the day, often using multiple film cameras for different textures and tones. I’m drawn to how each medium captures things in its own way, and I like having that range. I also offer Super 8 film ‘video’ adding a more fluid, nostalgic layer alongside the still images.

Where would you love to travel to for work?

I’d love to shoot in the English countryside, along the Mediterranean coast, or in places throughout Southeast Asia where there’s a strong sense of culture and visual identity. I’m also always drawn to family homes and places that already carry history and meaning.

Who is your dream client?

Someone with a strong sense of style who values both the aesthetic and the overall experience of their wedding. Couples who are open, trusting, and thoughtful about how the day feels for themselves and their guests tend to create the most interesting environments to photograph.
