Natalie Joy Mitchell is a photographer specialising in film and digital formats. She loves capturing love in every form, irrespective of gender, religion, sexuality, or race. Her goal is to produce images that appear natural and genuine, while highlighting her artistic vision. Natalie Joy Mitchell is based in San Diego, California and travels for weddings.

What would you like couples to know about you? 

I'm based in Southern California with Pacific Northwest roots, where I first fell in love with photography over 15 years ago. My experience ranges from lifestyle and documentary work to branding and product photography, eventually leading me to weddings, which now feel like home. I believe my background in various fields gives me a creative and unique perspective. I'm passionate about what I do and feel so fortunate every time get to document people’s love! When I’m not behind the camera, you can find me at my retail shop, Timshel, or exploring the outdoors.

Yes!

How would you describe your style? 

Nostalgic documentary with a touch of editorial.

What inspires you? 

Most of my inspiration comes from my time in nature, seeing beauty in the everyday, and my grandmother’s photo albums.

How would you describe your working style? 

I think it’s so important for clients to feel comfortable in front of the camera, and that includes your guests too! I tend to be more outgoing because I believe it helps create ease around having your photo taken. My hope is that by the end of the experience, it feels like you had a friend documenting your day, not just a random vendor you hired. 

Every client is different, so their needs and wants will vary as well. I’m very comfortable giving direction when needed or hanging back and letting the magic unfold naturally. My goal is to capture your love and your wedding as authentically as possible, which sometimes means adjusting my approach to best reflect the energy and flow of the day.

Do you shoot digitally, on film or both? 

Both.

Do you have custom packages according to individual needs? 

I have starting base packages that can give you an idea of what my pricing will be, but I am always happy to make custom packages to fit individual needs!

Who is your dream client? 

Short answer: My dream clients are fun and friendly! 

Long answer: My dream clients are those who want to be fully present and prioritize the experience above all else. Of course, I love an aesthetic wedding as much as the next person, but I also love capturing all the feels. My ideal clients value honest and heartfelt documentation over chasing the “perfect” image because it’s the imperfections that make a wedding truly special.
