Tell us about your business!

Ciao! I’m Ricardo Lopes, the photographer and founder of La Dolce Vita, a wedding photography brand based in Lisbon, Portugal.

At La Dolce Vita, we craft elegant, timeless visual narratives inspired by a philosophy of savoring life’s most exquisite moments. It’s a spirit immortalized by Fellini’s iconic film, which continues to inspire generations. Our style blends cinematic romance with refined sophistication, designed for couples who embrace authenticity, emotion, and a touch of rebellious charm.

What would you like couples to know about you?

I believe the most powerful images are born in moments of stillness, laughter, a subtle gesture, without force or interruption. I approach every wedding with curiosity, care, and the belief that your story is worth telling with honesty and artistry. I like to blend in quietly, like a friend with a camera, so that what I capture isn’t just what happened, but how it truly felt.

As Sylvia says in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, “I like lots of things. But there are three things I like most: love, love, and love.” That’s at the heart of everything I do, celebrating the many kinds of love that fill your day.

I’m also a documentary photographer and a musician, and wedding photography has become a wonderful canvas for me to explore new artistic aesthetics while staying true to storytelling rooted in real emotion. I love connecting with people from all over the world - speaking fluent English and Spanish, and some French - which makes this work such a privilege.

Traveling, discovering new cultures, and strolling by the beach with my dog on the day after a wedding are some of my greatest joys.

Where are you based?

I’m based in sunny Lisbon, Portugal!

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes, absolutely! While Portugal offers a dreamlike backdrop of golden light and beautiful venues, I find new energy and stories in every place I visit. Italy will always hold a special place in my heart, but I’m excited to explore weddings across Spain, France, Greece, and beyond, even if that means traveling across the ocean to capture your unique celebration.

How would you describe your style?

My style is cinematic and editorial, with a documentary heart. I’m always seeking the right light and moments that reveal genuine emotion, capturing the day in an elegant way that will stand the test of time. I’m drawn to details and fleeting subtleties, quiet moments of intimacy, and the kind of light that lives in memory long after the day is over. I also embrace both imperfection and spontaneity because I believe they are essential parts of life’s beautiful story.

What is your most memorable career moment?

One of the most rewarding parts of my journey is the ongoing privilege of being trusted by couples to capture their most intimate and meaningful moments. Seeing La Dolce Vita grow and evolve into a brand that truly embodies my artistic vision fills me with pride.

Separately, it’s also incredibly fulfilling that my personal documentary photography projects, which explore different themes and stories linked to human rights, have been recognized internationally through awards, exhibitions, and features in respected publications. While distinct from my wedding work, this experience deeply enriches my artistic approach and vision.

What inspires you?

I draw inspiration from cinema, especially the timeless beauty of Italian and French films, as well as music, poetry, and painting. I’m fascinated by the stories that linger long after the moment has passed. But above all, it’s people who inspire me most: the way we connect, express love, and move through life’s big, meaningful moments together.

That human connection is endlessly inspiring and always at the heart of my work.

How would you describe your working style?

I’m a calm presence throughout the day, blending in seamlessly with your guests - you’ll often catch me smiling behind the camera. I stay present and unobtrusive, letting moments unfold naturally without over-directing or staging. I’ll be close enough to capture genuine emotions but give enough space so everything can breathe. It’s about moving with you, not controlling the day.

Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?

I shoot both digital and film! I absolutely love the nostalgia and the timeless magic of film, it’s an ever-inspiring medium that brings softness, texture, and imperfection in the most beautiful way. I pair it with digital’s versatility to create a layered, evocative collection.

Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?

Absolutely. We offer curated collections, but every couple and every celebration is different, we’re always happy to shape something custom around your plans.

Who is your dream client?

My dream client is someone unafraid to do things their own way, who values emotion and follows what feels right for them. They want their celebration to be personal and authentic, present in the moment, and who really seize the unique gathering of loved ones coming together to celebrate their love. Often, they have a love for different cultures and unique experiences, inspiring them to create a day that reflects their own story. They trust the creative process and give me the freedom to capture their day through a poetic and honest lens, preserving the genuine emotions and stories that make their wedding uniquely theirs.
