PHOTOGRAPHER | In The Mood For Love

Adelaide based photographer Jaz Anderson of In The Mood For Love aims to tell each of her couples love stories authentically and creates an experience and images that they will love for many decades to come. In The Mood For Love travels to capture weddings in Spain and Italy during the European summer months.

Tell us about In The Mood For Love!

To put it simply, my business is wedding photography. But, it goes so much further than just running around with a camera on the wedding day.

I care about taking the time before the couple's special day to get to know them and their story. I also take the time to work out how best to photograph the day through plenty of planning beforehand. Then on the wedding day, I aim to keep the photo-making process as enjoyable as possible. My main priority is that getting the photos does not take away from them enjoying one of the best days of their lives.

I named our business In The Mood for Love after one of my favourite films of all time. I have continued to love this film as much now as I did when I first saw some 20 years ago. This is what I hope to achieve with my wedding  photography - creating an experience and gallery that the couple will love for many decades to come.

What would you like couples to know about you?

I want them to know about Alejandro! My partner in life and love is also my business partner and we work amazingly together. He is a videographer, working with digital and super 8mm. Though sometimes he second shoots with me, he is also a great photographer - comfortable with digital and 35mm film as well.

Where are you based?

We are based in Adelaide, South Australia.

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes. Alejandro and I meet while travelling. We spent the good part of a decade exploring the accessible continents before settling in little old Adelaide.

So far, we have travelled interstate for weddings. We were booked for an elopement in Italy in August 2020 but then the pandemic happened. We are hoping to try again in 2025. So, any Italy or Spain wedding plans, get in touch!

How would you describe your style?

It is authentic to the couple’s day. It is influenced and inspired by years of studying and working in the arts, films and fashion while being candid and in the moment as much as possible.

What is your most memorable career moment?

There are so many memorable moments at weddings! They are very memorable days! However, one wedding stands out as a particularly memorable career moment.

I had the absolute pleasure of being part of Paul and Anna Vasileff’s wedding day team. Paul Vasileff is the designer behind Paolo Sebastian. Seeing Anna wear the 3 gowns Paul had designed for her to wear over their wedding day was …I can’t figure out the words to explain it - it leaves me speechless. It was extraordinarily special and beautiful. To top it off, I was working with all my favourite wedding vendors in Adelaide.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration in many places but in particular films, paintings, travel and fashion. I like to think about the experiences, emotions, music, colours, light, poses and compositions in things and get inspired by them. I try to avoid looking at too many wedding photographers to ensure I am sticking to the style I described above and not getting lost in solely trends.

What motivates you to do what you do?

Reading the amazing emails and reviews from past couples.

Creatively I am motivated by a well-considered, interesting and unique style, a beautiful venue and awesome people.

How would you describe your working style?

My working style involves being friendly with everyone so everyone feels comfortable with having me around. It involves mildly directing people towards the best quality light, positions and/or poses that suit to get the best photos  while simultaneously trying to make sure everyone is having a great time and the photography isn’t just taking over.

Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?

I shoot both digital and 35mm film.

Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?

Yes, most definitely! We encourage couples to let us know as much as they can about their wedding plans so we can customise if needed.

What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?

I love the engagement/pre-wedding shoots and the 35mm film add-on. But, I am most excited about the stunning bespoke wedding albums I have added this year.

Where would you love to travel to for work?

Spain! A move to Spain at some stage is always in our minds. For now, we would love any enquiries for Spain over May - Aug.

Who is your dream client?

Couples who are excited for their wedding day. Who value the day and each other and are planning on making it the best day ever! It is also nice when they put thought into the elements of their day especially what they are going to wear.

What is your advice to couples getting married?

My advice is to consider having a wedding planner/on-the-day coordinator. Planning a wedding and coordinating on the day a full-day event with multiple vendor teams, guests and family in potentially multiple locations can be so much more than "planning a party”. Aside from that, remember to enjoy yourself, time is a weird concept and before you know it will all be over and all  you’ll have left are your memories and photos.
