Tell us a little about yourselves!
Hi! We’re Margaux and Drew! We live in Brooklyn, NY – Park Slope to be exact! After playing 5 years of phone tag on Tinder through our twenties (we were single, got back with our exes, single again, etc.), we decided to finally meet up in a moment of sheer loneliness during the pandemic. Most restaurants were trying to figure outdoor dining and it was the dead of winter, so Drew took me to the Key Foods grocery store near my apartment and we went grocery shopping for our first date. It was clear how much we both loved food and the act of eating together – food has been the center of our relationship ever since! To this day, we love our weekly grocery shopping date, cooking together, hosting dinner parties, and trying new restaurants around the city. We also love traveling (mostly for the food), NY and Detroit sports, and our miniature schnauzer, Leo.
In my spare time, I love vintage shopping and sewing (Drew is a great sport when it comes to spending hours in upstate antique malls). Drew loves playing volleyball and soccer in his local leagues and watching anime (I am less of a good sport and often fall asleep while we watch anime).
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Rule of Thirds was one of our first restaurant dates! We loved it there so much that we decided to introduce our parents to each other there over a very long and sake-filled brunch. Once we got engaged, we knew the food needed good good, not just “good for wedding food”. Rule of Thirds had food we loved and sentimentality that made it the perfect fit for us.
How many guests did you have?
160.
What was your budget?
$100,000.
Tell us about your outfits.
Collecting vintage is one of my favorite hobbies, so it was a no-brainer that my dresses would be vintage. I came across Eva from ChaCha Linda Vintage in Brooklyn while scrolling Instagram and it was a match made in heaven! She had me share my measurements and inspirations ahead of time and upon arrival to her studio, had over 40 dresses for me to try on that all matched my vibe perfectly. I ended up buying my engagement photo dress (1980’s, no brand), ceremony dress (1980’s Richeline), and reception dress (early 00’s, no brand) from her all in one session! My veil and bow headpiece from my reception were custom made by an amazing milliner named Awon Golding based out of England.
Drew knew he wanted something custom that matched our Valentine’s wedding vibe. We went to Suit Supply in Williamsburg and were matched up with Olivia – the three of us bonded immediately! Olivia sourced a beautiful pink Italian silk fabric for Drew’s suit and offered great guidance on all of the details from buttons to pockets. She even had our wedding date embroidered in pink thread behind Drew’s jacket collar.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
The most important thing for us was to be sure our wedding felt like a love letter to ourselves and to Brooklyn – the greatest place in the world, and the place where we fell in love! Getting married in our favorite Brooklyn restaurant, with a band who we encountered in Prospect Park, a DJ who spins at our favorite Bushwick bars, dancers from Brooklyn Haven House of Yes, with florals and a dresses that came from neighboring studio spaces in Greenpoint near my office, wedding bands made by our favorite Brooklyn-based jewelery designers – every aspect of our wedding felt like a beautiful and sentimental reminder of all the things we love doing together and all the things we love about living in Brooklyn. The art, the community, the food, the joy, and all of our friends!
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Drew grew up playing trombone and I grew up competitive dancing, so we wanted to be sure we could incorporate live jazz music and dance at our wedding. We encountered The Revisionists playing in Prospect Park by our apartment and loved their energy. We knew we needed to have them play our wedding. Having spent a majority of my twenties living in Bushwick with my college friends, House of Yes was a really special place for us to dance away the dread of having adult responsibilities. We wanted our wedding to feel like a mini House of Yes party, so we reached out to them and they graciously introduced us to the dancers who performed at our wedding. Having a House of Yes burlesque dancer do a routine to live jazz from The Revisionists was such a treat for us and our guests!
Any tips for couples getting married?
Designate someone to force you both to pause throughout the day and take in the moment. I was so glad that our planner Justine pulled us aside during our cocktail hour and reception to pull us off the dance floor and pause to take in all of the joy in the room. The day goes by so fast and we’re both so glad we have these mental snapshots of our friends and families having the best time celebrating us.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
The Get Together – I am incredibly Type A and Drew is the king of organization. We knew what our vision was for our wedding and were extremely regimented when it came to booking vendors. The Get Together is amazing because they completely absorbed our vision and a month before our wedding, rallied all of our vendors to be sure that Drew and I could zen out and focus on each other. Our planner, Justine, kept the whole day moving and ensured Drew and I ate, stayed hydrated, and had moments to pause and take the whole day in.
ChaCha Linda Vintage – The owner, Eva, created the most magical and affirming dress try-on experience! Her showroom in Greenpoint is a treasure trove of expertly curated vintage fashion – I want her to furnish my entire closet!
Bloom Bloom Studio – With just one phone call, Tasha and I immediately connected over our love of sculptural florals and miniature schnauzers (we both have one!). It was an absolute treat to share some color inspo with Tasha and then just let her team create! They’re total artists with flowers and created floral pieces that stunned our guests!
Molly Adams – Drew and I knew Molly was a no brainer for us because we loved her documentary-style photos that she had taken for touring indie bands. We wanted our photos to feel authentic to the day and authentic to us and Molly understood the assignment beautifully.
