Julia & Léo, Swiss Alps, 2026
Les Fiancés de la Neige takes its name from a story in a book written by Maurice Zermatten, Photographer CouCouStudio Love's grandfather, a Swiss writer. He wrote mostly about his life in Valais, in the Swiss Alps, and specifically about the Val d’Hérens — the valley where he came from, where photographer Annabelle from CouCouStudio Love comes from, and where this editorial took place. This day was conceived and co-created with Amandine Bula, a Swiss wedding planner.
The book's opening story features a couple from neighbouring villages who are unable to meet due to a snowstorm. In response, the man attempts to reach his future wife by digging a tunnel through the snow. (Recently, the book has even been translated into Japanese.)
The creative team imagined something simple, joyful, and intimate, focusing on love, friendship, and family, with a subtle fairytale touch, blended with a contemporary, colourful, and fun aesthetic, inspired by all the tales and legends of the valley. This editrorial is a celebration of the Swiss mountains, the valley and Switzerland as a whole.
Everyone involved truly lived the day as a little festival of love — which is why the images capture real, joyful moments, not posed shots. The cross-country skiing was also authentic — Julia and Léo used their own skis, and it was incredibly fortunate that it had snowed just the day before!
More than just taking pictures, this editorial was about spending the day together, sharing moments,
and creating something heartfelt. Everyone embraced the spirit of the day. Vintage tableware, sleds, deck chairs, and cross-country skis were brought by all of us. Julia Widmann, an artist herself, painted all the canvases and the table runner seen in the images and clothing worn was borrowed from grandparents and loved ones.
