Engagement | Halley + Eric

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We first met five years ago in a screenwriting class. After bumping into each other in the hallways of our journalism school countless times, signing up for the same student run news show, and matching on Tinder, we finally went on our first date. Four years later, we live in a small apartment in Washington, DC with our dog where we watch movies, play video games, and order takeout.

Why did you decide to have your engagement shoot where you did?

We wanted engagement photos that reflected the city we met and fell in love in. People often criticize DC for lacking creativity, but there's art and nature everywhere you look. We wanted these photos to embrace the timeless, classic aesthetic that we've always loved about our city - for us that meant

leaning into visual elements like film photography, brown coats, silhouettes, and white bow stilettos. We also wanted the photos to reflect us as a couple, and our photographer Margaret Wroblewski did an amazing job at capturing that. We both work in video production but Halley is on camera and Eric is off. We think you can see that dynamic here - like how Halley jumps to popping her foot with statement heels while Eric opts for simple forehead kisses. Margaret did such a great job at capturing our relationship and our personalities.

Any tips for couples planning a wedding during the pandemic?

The combination of a small guest list and long engagement have made the planning process so much easier for us. Logistically, it's given us more time to consider fewer factors, and emotionally it's allowed us to be intentional about what we want for our wedding and who we're inviting. We've tried to embrace the good and the bad of the pandemic and so far it's worked for us!
