Real Wedding | Gabi + Blake

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We live in a historic home in Glendale, California. There’s a dramatic hour of day when the afternoon sun shines through a stained glass window and washes the architecture with amber light. We timed our ceremony just right so that this formed the backdrop of our nuptials.

How many guests did you have?

50.

Tell us about your outfits.

We’re proud to say we didn’t buy anything new! The groom wore a Lady White Co. set and Aurora shoes from his closet. The bride wore a Mara Hoffman dress from Poshmark and LoQ shoes from her closet. Family pitched in with makeup, hair and jewelry.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

That the ceremony content was sentimental and uniquely ours... and that our guests were fully indulged with the food and drinks.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

The southern Californian canyon environment we call home. We asked florist Isa Isa Floral to incorporate branches of the Coast Live Oak, flowering laurel sumac and buckwheat into the arrangements. The sagey perfume of the chaparral informed Satbhajan Khalsa’s drink menu. We gathered sprouted acorns from our backyard and displayed them as the napkin treatment. Acorns are a simple and hopeful symbol of growth, abundance, and longevity. So we had jeweler J.Hannah engrave them inside our rings too.

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?

It’s good practice to stay local, simplify, and act with greater intention and responsibility to each other - the pandemic reminded us of that.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Don’t underestimate the importance of investing in quality photography - the day goes by in a flash. We love Jamie Street from St. Chelle for her authentic eye for human connection, and couldn’t be happier with how she captured our day. Being able to revisit it (and all the feelings) simply by looking back on the photos is priceless.
