Real Wedding | Ari + Wesley

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Wesley is a stonemason and sculpture artist. I am a nurse, and I really love to bake, particularly Viennoiserie as of late. We have known each other single high school but got together after college. We really love our two chocolate Labradors, Bert and Mona. They are super goofy and fun. We completed basically a total renovation of our house and really enjoying working on it, as well as our gardens. We also love to sauna, ski, go for walks with the dogs and just keep life simple and quiet.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We love our little home and the love we’ve created in it. Our favorite moments are time spent with our dogs and our family, all sitting at the same table, enjoying a home cooked meal. We wanted our wedding to be just that. Neither of us particularly enjoy being the focus of attention, and a classic big wedding just didn’t feel like something we would enjoy.

We exchanged our vows privately in the morning. We were officially wed by our brother-in-law later that evening, right before we sat down for a really delicious six course meal that was prepared in our kitchen. Our best friends joined after dinner. The whole night was intimate and filled with love. We remember every moment, and felt like time moved slowly, in the best way.

How many guests did you have?

14. The Light + Color captured our day.

What was your budget?

We didn’t have one!

Tell us about your outfits.

I wore a midi length slip Significant Other x BHDLN dress with long balloon sleeves, a puffed headband and a ballroom length veil. I was barefoot most of the time.

Wesley wore a simple, black, suit with a white shirt and no tie.

Our wedding was on the coldest day of the year in New England, it was -17F when we woke up, long sleeves were a must!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

That is felt like us. We wanted our guests to feel like it was genuine to who we are. We wanted to feel like it was just like all our other days together and with our family, but just the best version.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Our two chocolate Labradors. We also wanted everyone to be sitting at the same table, surrounded by really good food!

Any tips for couples getting married?

Don’t get caught up in all the expectations. If you do what feels right for both of you, you’ll have the best day ever.
