From stateside to across the globe, Kristin Piteo travels near and far to capture artful weddings and elopements and with photos that express the height and depth of every love story captured.
Tell us about your business!
I have been photographing couples since 2012, over the past 10 years I have continued to evolve and really immerse myself into my connections with each couple so I can better tell their love stories. I find that establishing a genuine relationship helps unfold the depth of each story. Photography and my connection with traveling are inseparable. I am fueled by new places, concepts, designs and engaging with people from all over the world to capture all the big and little moments on their special days.
Where are you based?
New York based, but I travel worldwide.
Do you travel for weddings?
I travel for 75% of my weddings.
How would you describe your style?
Authentic, Modern Romantic, Editorial, Bold, Timeless.
What is your most memorable career moment?
There was a moment when I was on one of those classic Italian wooden boats (Riva Aquarama) in the middle of Lake Como, as I shot a gorgeous elopement between two gorgeous humans - where everything was bliss and I thought to myself that my dreams are coming true.
Ever since I started taking photos 10 years ago, it has been an absolute dream to pursue luxury destination weddings and elopements. To see it all unfold before me, has made me so grateful for every single part of the process as well as each and every person along the way.
What inspires you?
I envision each couple as art and from there it is all created. Being able to travel across the world I am inspired by architectural design, fashion, people and all different art forms. Taking time to walk through museums and imagine the artist behind the work can be extremely inspiring. While all of those outlets influence my inspiration, following photographers with all different backgrounds keeps me evolving and engaged.
What motivates you to do what you do?
I am continuously motivated to create. If not for each and every couple, but for myself as well. One of the best feelings is when my couples get to relive those special moments they didn’t even plan or realize happened, as they look through their gallery for the first time. These memories created and captured will forever be treasures for them, their families and friends
How would you describe your working style?
I bring a laid back, creative approach to the day. Creating that bond with each couple really allows them to be their true selves instead of looking uncomfortable and posed. The connection we build won’t go unnoticed. By the time your wedding day arrives, I will be another friend in the room, adjusting, fixing, helping you feel beautiful and capturing your genuine love.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
I shoot digital and 35mm film.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Yes, each client is given custom pricing based on their day.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
I love photographing luxury destination elopements with either just the couple or a small gathering. I find that this truly lets the couple enjoy the company of each other more deeply. Sometimes the bigger the wedding, the less time they can really tune into their wedding and remember the true meaning. And what better place to exchange vows but in a location that is an art form in itself.
That being said, there is also something to be said about larger weddings too and seeing all the love and joy among so many people.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
I have been craving Southeast Asia, Morocco, Egypt or Greece. But truly anywhere!
Who is your dream client?
A couple who genuinely is connected with themselves as well as the world around them. Individuals who love to express their love deeply, appreciate art, photography and fashion! They are romantic, timeless and authentic.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
I always try to remind each couple to be present on their wedding day. It’s so easy to get distracted but I think it’s truly important to bring them back to the present moment and to remember the very reason of why we are all there.
