The question constantly on my lips.

WHY, seriously WHY?

Earlier this week in conversation the term 'pretty' came up in regards to the bridal market and it really got me thinking about how I would rather be about 5 million things other than a 'pretty' bride. Now don't get me wrong, when I say I don't want to be a pretty bride I don't mean I want to look like a red hot, disheveled mess. Of course I want to look good but I'm not wanting 'pretty' to be the first adjective that comes out of Ben's mouth.

I'm not sure if I am alone in this, but pretty to me isn't amazing, incredible, unique, sophisticated or smoking hot. Pretty is my opinion a little bland. Dare I say - boring.

In the same regard, as am I trawling through websites trying to find rings and shoes (again), I can't help but question why it is that a wedding ring is meant to look a certain why or why there is a separate section for bridal shoes. I honestly and sincerely just don't get it.

Again I need to stress that I am by no means questioning the sanctity of marriage. Rather, I am wondering why on earth the wedding market seems so set on things being a certain way. Why is the world of weddings (for the most part) so formulaic and what is actually the reason behind it? My creative (and perhaps overthinking) brain honestly can't cope. And I am even more grateful for our anti-bride friendly vendors who get it!

Meanwhile I asked Ben to think of one adjective to describe how I will hopefully look on our wedding day. His response : ANGELIC.

We'll just leave it at that.
