Finding that wedding outfit can be a challenge for most anti-brides. However, thankfully there are a number of amazing designers internationally and within Australia that make pieces that are not your run of the mill, princess style wedding dresses. Here are some of my favourite bridal designers with ready to wear pieces - they are all amazing in their own right:

Prea James is an Australian bridal designer, designing gowns for the relaxed modern bride who wants something fashionable and unique for her wedding day. Having studied at the renowned Fashion Design Studio - Ultimo TAFE Sydney Institute of Fashion graduating in 2009; Prea then went on to work in the Australian fashion industry before narrowing in to bridal.
Prea James was founded in 2012, when Prea started creating Couture wedding gowns for brides in Sydney under the label Prea James Couture. The label has now expanded by adding a made to order collection to the name, labelled Vow by Prea James. The Prea James aesthetic can be described as modern femininity, fashionable, youthful, with each gown having a unique romantic feel. Prea has a keen eye for unfaltering fit and hand finishes that add that special touch to each gown.

LEIN’s philosophy is that the life cycle of every exceptional outfit, even a wedding dress, should be more than one day. The bespoke process is one that Meredith is especially passionate about as it provides the unique opportunity for brides to intimately collaborate with the designer on a look that feels distinctly their own.

Based in Berlin these designs have a distinctly edgy feel. Featuring body suits, jumpsuits and separates made from silk, lace and tulle Ritual Unions has pieces that are different to your average bridal brand (and damnit I love that.) Quoted by the Bridal Edit to be 'twenty-first century bridal at it‘s brave and brilliant best', Ritual Unions is definitely a brand to watch.

Pairing silk-wools woven in Italy with unexpected cottons from Japan, Danielle creates a fresh yet formal look. The styles are handsome yet feminine and powerful yet understated. The launch of the company in 2017 was spurred by Frankel's history working as a Designer at both Vera Wang and Marchesa and reflects a modern bride, respecting classic tailoring and fit. Fingers crossed the designs will hit Australian shores in the not too distant future!

De la Rosa is a bridal collection for the effortless, modern bride. A de la Rosa bride wants to look and be herself on her wedding day. She doesn’t necessarily need to get married in a church. Her aisle could be a beach-path and the mountains, her cathedral. She appreciates fashion and doesn't need to follow the traditional bridal stereotypes. It’s her “Big Day,” but she still wants to have a blast. Thus, de la Rosa offers uncomplicated and elegantly unconventional bridal gowns and separates. sahroo was founded in New York City in 2018 by Sarah Abbasi, who was inspired by the ease and elegance of the matching sets often worn in the subcontinent. sahroo playfully reinterprets that way of dressing using sumptuous fabrics, artisanal techniques and a dreamy, romantic color palette. Their twice-annual collections are exquisitely created by local artisans who are masters of their crafts. These collaborators include hand-dyers, hand-embellishers and expert tailors who oversee the cutting and sewing of each individual piece.
