Real Wedding | Taylor + Tyler

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Tyler and I first met in high school, but thank the good Lord we didn’t get together then. Years later (after we had both grown a lot) Tyler and I reconnected at a bar. We’ve been together ever since. We love figuring out life’s challenges as a team and celebrating joyful moments with intention.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Tyler is a professional baseball player, so much of our relationship is long distance and not all our friends know each other. We wanted to get married in a beautiful place where we could unite all the people in our life for 3 full days of fun. We packed 24 of our best friends in to the Higuera Ranch and spent the weekend playing lawn games, sharing meals, and talking by the fire.

How many guests did you have?

We had 45 guests.

Tell us about your outfits.

Tyler and I wanted to look and feel good at our wedding. We selected outfits that made us feel like ourselves. I wore an Alyssa Kristin dress for our ceremony and a Bhldn mini reception dress. I chose to go with minimal makeup and did my own hair. The intention was that if I looked more like my everyday self, I’d bring more of my true self to the celebration.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Authenticity. We let go of every tradition that didn’t feel like us. What we had left was a wedding that felt like disco dance night at a Christian summer camp sponsored by tequila!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We wanted our friends to walk away from the weekend feeling closer to us and closer to each other.

Everything we did was based on this goal. We all stayed in the same house, played lawn games, slosh ball, slid down the waterslide, and talked by the fire. We left feeling restored and loved.

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?

Read the book The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters by Priya Parker and go to therapy!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

My wedding photographer, Easton Mika Kawawaki made our day. We were originally supposed to get married in 2020. Due to all things pandemic, we decided to downsize. I called Easton and told her the new plan was to get married in 6 weeks. She met the short time frame with enthusiasm and grace. She is a badass who deserves to be in the wedding photographer hall of fame. I’ll be singing her praises 'til the cows come home!
